Rainy days

So the other day we went for a drive in my friends car to a local national park. It was raining gently all day long and the rain droplets on the leaves of the plants and splashing on the surface of the creek made the place look so wonderfully magical.
I came home that afternoon and painted this little ACEO.

autum flower faerie.

You might remember this drawing I did of a friends daughter as a little wood faerie.
Hear is the finished colored version. She turned out very bright and sweet, a spring flower faerie in autum.

I haven't been able to finish any new paintings lately so I thought id share some bits and pieces from my sketch book over the next few weeks. I often love the rough little sketches I do more than the finished paintings. The sketches seem to have more expression and emotion.

long way home

On Friday after work I was quite tired and brain strained but I wanted to do a bit of arty stuff so I just started mucking around with colour and this little picture emerged seemingly on its own. I really love it when that happens. It called "long way home". Those poor little guys are still lugging home their supplies and its already dusk and the stars are coming out. As much as most aspects of old fashioned life appeal to me, I'm sure it was extremely hard work.

work in progress

I am having a very arty long weekend. This is one of the pictures I have been working on.
Its all drawn up, tomorrow I will start adding colour.

And hear is an older piece from last year that I just added to the gallery.
Its done with watercolour and ink on canvas paper. I used a metal ink quill and it made wonderful soft scratching noises while I was drawing and felt very old worldly. I'm quite fond of some of the effects in this one.

Inspiration

whew, I've been having real art attacks lately. I sit down for a quick sketch and don't end up looking up from the page until three hours later. The wonderful goddess of inspiration is definitely gracing me with her presence at the moment I just hope she brings along her good friend the goddess of divine skill so that some of these many paintings actually turn out good

Amongst other things I did this little drawing of a friends daughter she is very pretty and cute so naturaly the picture is very cutey too. I may add some colour or shade it out more, well see.

trees like company.

Another little water colour completed. I had this one siting around half finished for ages not knowing what it needed the pine tree wasn't working and it was to somehow laking. Then i decided to put the background trees in and the pine tree obviously glad of the company worked itself out just like that.

5 walks Hercynia silva

"Hercynia silva" doesn't that sound so poetic old and wonderful.
Last night I was searching for more info on the forest and came across this short film made by artists "Anna Abraham" and Jan Frederik Groot". This video is so close to perfect. To me it has the same feeling as my favourite black metal songs a kind of nostalgic longing mixed with dread. I cant explain it but I'm always chasing it.
hears the link.

Below is a little introduktion to the film taken from their website-
"In the northern region is the vast expanse of the Hercynian forest, untouched by the ages and coeval with the world, which surpasses all marvels by its almost immortal destiny." (Pliny, ‘Natural History’ 23-79 AD)
"The horror and grandeur of the last remnants of Northern European primary forest conjure up a history of hunting, fleeing and meetings with magical creatures. The first part of a series of films on the cultural meaning of landscape."
